Jonathan J. McKim, Architect

Jonathan J. McKim, Architect (JJMA) was established in July of 2009 when Jonathan was granted an architect's license by Arizona, followed by California, Hawaii, and Pennsylvania.

Born and raised in Chester County, Pennsylvania, Jonathan holds a 5-year B-Arch from Temple University and an NCARB Certificate. As a sole proprietor, Jonathan offers personalized one-on-one services to high-net-worth clients or their family offices. His projects range from custom homes, private estates/compounds, real estate development investments, and civic. In addition design, Jonathan, perhaps for the adrenaline rush, provides high-rise facade inspections under the San Francisco AB-110 Facade Inspection and Maintenance Program.

Architectural Philosophy:

1. Rigor: "A great building must begin with the immeasurable, must go through measurable means when it is being designed, and in the end must be unmeasured." - Louis I. Kahn, Architect

2. Basis: All projects most follow the Vitruvian Triad: fimitas (strength), utilitas (utility), and venustas (beauty).

3. Parti: for private homes, utilize an 80/20 split where a project's form is 80% vernacular contextualism and 20% modernism, allowing a project's sustainable measures to be wholly organic rather than applied.

4. And finally, honesty in material usage: exposed structure is truth and godlike, while interior design and applied ornamentation are cardinal sins.
